HISTORY OF THE ACADEMYHOW IT HAPPENEDThe David Beckham Academy is the realization of a dream that David had many years ago. As a boy he was lucky enough to take part in the Bobby Charlton Soccer School – since then David has always wanted to give children the same chance he had. The Academy in London was opened in 2005. It is the largest sporting facility of its kind in Europe. It has a massive indoor arena housing two full sized, third generation, artificially turfed pitches, alongside a state-of-the-art education and administration centre. Boys and girls aged 8-15 years will be able to participate in one, three or five-day programmes that run throughout the year. The Academy also runs a hugely successful Schools Programme that consists of a training day linked with Key Stage 2 and 3 learning. So far over 10,000 children have taken part. With an After Schools Club, a Corporate Programme and a fully equipped Sports Medical Centre, the David Beckham Academy really does provide something for everyone. After launching both the London and Los Angeles Academies in 2005, the next destination is Brazil and the David Beckham World of Sport at Cabo Säo Roque; it looks like the dream has only just begun! |
